Winnie's Quiet Book

Today's adorable quiet book comes to us from Winnie of the blog Be A Creative Mom. She hand-sewed the entire thing in just about a week, which is seriously impressive! I love the look that hand-sewing gives quiet books, and I especially love the embroidery that Winnie added to the front and back covers.

In addition to the awesome embroidered covers, Winnie's quiet book has a safari animals page (the animals are hanging on buttons, and can be removed and played with), a purse page (with toys to find inside), a shapes page, a numbers page (which flaps that lift up with objects underneath for children to count), a telephone page (with velcro numbers), a bee and flowers string page, a ribbon page, and an octopus page (with beads on his tentacles to count).

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence. 
My name is Winnie; I am a mom of 2 living in Singapore.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they? 

I made this book for my one-year-old daughter.

What's your level of sewing experience? How long did it take you?
I consider myself a intermediate sewer, as I hand sew lots of stuff. My speed is actually decent. The book took me about one week to finish while sewing 2 hours a day. So roughly 14-15 hours.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found? 

I used some from online. I don't remember all of the resources so just listed what I can find as below. Just want to say thank you to all the fantastic moms who posted their templates.

Forgot where the octopus and bee is from... But they are super famous quiet book pages!

How did you bind your quiet book? 

Just by sewing.

What material are the pages made out of? 

Felt.

What other materials did you use? 

Beads, ribbons, yarn, velcro, a key, a card,etc.
 

How much did all the supplies cost you? 

About $15-20.

What's your favorite page? Why?  

I simply love them all... I worked quite a bit to design and find pages suit my 1 yr old girl. My girl loves the octopus beads page the most.

Džiuginta's "Treasure Island" Quiet Book

I am so excited about the incredibly cute "Treasure Island" quiet book that I get to share with you today. Made by Džiuginta of the blog Domus Feltinis, this detailed book includes a pirate ship cover (complete with light-up lighthouse), a pirate finger puppet, a treasure chest with a lock and filled with treasure, a parrot, a crab, a Jolly Roger pirate flag, seashells on the beach, a treasure map, a letter in a bottle, and a rings and crosses tic-tac-toe. It's incredible. Each page has so much to do and so much to play with.

I love the decorative details on each page, too - especially the rick rack waves and the little seashells sewn to the page. (LOVE the seashells.) I also thought Džiuginta's way of lighting up the lighthouse was very clever - she put a tiny push flashlight (the kind that go on key rings) inside.

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence. 
My name is Džiuginta. I am a big dreamer from Lithuania, obsessed with felt crafts!

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they? 
I made this quiet book for my 3-year-old son.

What's your level of sewing experience? 
I'd say intermediate but I only hand-sew.

How long did it take you?
I am not sure how many hours it took but I worked on it for about a month - one full weekend and whenever I had a couple of hours to spare.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found? 
I used Treasure and Pirate Island Tic-Tac-Toe templates from the Imagine Our Life blog and some coloring pages as an inspiration for the lighthouse and the ship. The Pirate finger puppet was inspired by a Pirate zombie from the Zombie Felties book. I added some details like the removable crab and parrot for which I made templates myself according to some pictures found on the Internet.

How did you bind your quiet book? 
The pages are stitched together by hand.

What material are the pages made out of? 
The pages are made out of synthetic felt.

What other materials did you use? 
Miniature sea shells, buttons, sequins, ribbons, a zipper, a miniature pocket torch, snaps, a lock, various beads and embellishments...

How much did all the supplies cost you? 
I have no idea, maybe around $20...

What's your favorite page? Why? 
I love the whole book but the front page must be my favorite as I created it from scratch.

Jenny's Quiet Book

Hello everyone! Today I get to share with you a beautiful book made by Jenny of the blog The Bushcrafter. Jenny is a craft teacher from Sweden, and her book is an absolutely beautiful creation. Her fabric choices and colors make this book a visual treat. I just want to stare at the colorful ferris wheel and hot air balloon pages for hours. Please, enjoy!

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
I’m Jenny; I am a big-hearted creative dreamer.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they? 
This piece was made as a side project and I found that I loved this free, intuitive process of finishing one page before starting the next one. I had no specific person in mind when I started, I just wanted to explore different techniques.

What's your level of sewing experience? 
I am a craft teacher.

How long did it take you?
Making these books take about a week, I only create on my spare time!

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found? 
I have no templates, instead I work with shapes that come to me in the moment, while I’m creating.

How did you bind your quiet book? 
All pages are stitched together by hand.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
Not much, the fabric I use is recycled, thrifted or handmade by me (often woven or hand painted). While making these books I feel like the queen of scraps, I just know that there is place for even the smallest scrap of fabric in them.

What material are the pages made out of? 
Scrap fabric of cotton, leather, felt, fleece and many other materials.

What's your favorite page? Why? 
My favorite page is absolutely the page with the clock. I like how the crochet doily pops out!

Agata's Fox Quiet Book

I am so incredibly impressed by the quiet book I get to share with you today. Made by Agata of the blog Agatownik, this book features a little fox who lives in the forest with his friends. As Agata explains, "This is not a typical quiet book. This is a big book where lives a little fox. When designing the book I focused on this to be a fun creative child and his friendship with a fox. The book is to stimulate a child's imagination. Fox has his friends in the forest, which he visits every day. He also has a room has a comfortable bed, a mirror, and clothes."

I love all of the fabrics Agata used and all of the detail she put into every page. This truly is a beautiful book and would be an absolute treasure to the child it's given to.

Agata created her book for the competition "A Child Friendly Toy," organized by the Museum of Toys and Play in Kielce, Poland (the largest and oldest toy museum in Poland). Her book's name for that contest was "Vulpecula and Friends" and it won third place in the eighth annual competition. Congratulations, Agata!

I'm Agata; I am a mother, wife, and I love crafts.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
The book was designed for the contest "A Child Friendly Toy," organized by the Museum of Toys and Play in Kielce, Poland.

What's your level of sewing experience?
My adventure with sewing takes about two years.

How long did it take you?
Work on the book took almost a month. This is the period from design, through the selection of fabrics, with the same concept implementation. Of course it was not continuous work. Only done in my spare time.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
The book is made according to an original design I made.

How did you bind your quiet book?
The book is quite large, all pages are permanently stitched together.

What material are the pages made out of?
The book is made of different materials. Cotton, felt, fleece, corduroy. It is a mix of fabrics, which usually I use.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
I have no idea how much it could cost.

What's your favorite page?
The most I like fox room is very cozy and has a well more balanced colors.

Melissa's Quiet Book

Today's quiet book is absolutely adorable. It was made by Melissa of the blog I have found the paradox, and it is seriously just so cute. Hand sewn and made of felt, this book spells out the name of Melissa's daughter, with each letter getting its own page and activity. There's an "A is for Apple" page with an apple that opens to show you its seeds, a "G is for Garden" page with vegetables to pick and flowers to water, an "N is for Nest" page with a blue bird and nest, a "E is for Elephant" page with a cute grey elephant, and a "S is for Sheep" page with button flowers and peekaboo bushes hiding adorable little sheep.

I love the details she added on each page - the layered flowers on the cover, the little bee in the garden and the detailed petals on the flowers, the texture on the branches of the nest, the knotted sheep's wool. I also love how bright and cheerful this book is, and the colors that Melissa chose to have on each page. It's very fun and visually interesting. Anyway, I'll stop rambling so that you can enjoy Melissa's book!

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence. 
Melissa. I am a crafty, coffee drinking, Catholic wife and mommy to two scamps.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they? 
My daughter Agnes. She is ten months now, but since this is a Christmas gift she will be 1 when I give it to her.

What's your level of sewing experience? 
I am definitely a beginner. I only sew for crafty projects like this one, and learned from tutorials online.

How long did it take you? 
About 3 weeks, on and off from start to finish. I would say I averaged about an hour a day, most days of the week.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found? 
No, but many of the concepts were inspired by other people's books, and this blog!

How did you bind your quiet book? 
The pages are sewn together with a blanket stitch and I stitched a felt binding around all of the pages once they were done.

What material are the pages made out of? 
Felt.

What other materials did you use? 
Embroidery thread, buttons, and yarn.

How much did all the supplies cost you? 
About $10. A lot of it was scraps and things I already had.

What's your favorite page? Why? 
Probably the page with the sheep. It is one of the only ones I came up with on my own, and it was the most time consuming, since the sheep are covered in french knots. I love how they feel, and I was really happy with the way that paged turned out as a whole.
