Ramya's No-Sew Quiet Book

Making a quiet book can be intimidating for a lot of people; if you haven't sewed anything before or if you think all the supplies will cost too much, it can be hard to get started. Ramya of the blog Ramya DIY, shows that this needn't be the case though. She created this quiet book with no sewing at all and all the supplies costing her only $7! How she did it was with a hot glue gun, felt, and foam sheets. She has so many cute pages that a child would love to play with. Enjoy!

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence. 
My name is Ramya, I am a stay-at-home-mom.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they? 
I made this book for my one year old son.

What's your level of sewing experience? 
Zero.

How long did it take you? 
It took me about 20 hours.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found? 
No, I have used my own basic drawing skills.

How did you bind your quiet book? 
I used a mini hot glue gun and stuck al the page to the spine of the book cover.

What material are the pages made out of? 
They are made of felt.

What other materials did you use? 
I also used foam sheets alternatively with felt for the design on each page.

How much did all the supplies cost book? 
Including the mini hot glue gun it cost me just around $7.

What's your favorite page? Why? 
I love the outer space pages because I think I got all the elements and color co-ordination correct.

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence. 
My name is Eva and I'm mom of a little girl Zuzana from Czech Republic.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
Books I sewed for my daughter (21 months) and other girls, usually 2 years old.

What's your level of sewing experience? 
I started to sew during maternity leave which is a nearly 2 years

How long did it take you?
Hard to say :) The first book three months, but I just sewed in the evenings, not every day. Other books about a month.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found? 
I do not use templates, but of course I was inspired by the Internet.

How did you bind your quiet book? 
I chose a seamed back books.

What material are the pages made out of? What other materials did you use? 
I use cotton, felt, and stiffener. I think you can use almost any material that we have at home, but most use ribbons, buttons, zippers, Velcro, laces, various fastening, transparent material, magnet or even mirrored foil.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
I can not estimate the cost of all materials because shopping has become a passion :D

What's your favorite page? Why? 
My favorite site with animals because they look impressive and kids love animals.

Yankee's Quiet Book

Today's quiet book comes to us from Yankee, and it is so cute.

The front cover has a name sewn onto it, along with a car that has a little pocket. Peppa Pig and her family are finger puppets that fit into the pocket and look like they're driving in the car.

The book opens up to show a car page with several adorable little vehicles, including an ambulance and a fire truck, and several road signs (like a traffic light, stop sign, etc.). Across from the car page is a laundry page with a washing machine, lots of clothes, a clothes line, and socks that velcro off the page.

Next Yankee has a clock page with colorful numbers and moveable hands, and a shoe-tying page where children can practice making a bow.

Next comes one of my favorite pages - Cookie Monster! Cookie Monster's mouth zippers open and you can pull out a lot of cookies, each of which has a different number of chocolate chips sewn on top. These match to numbers on the next page, for children to practice counting and number recognition.

The next page is absolutely adorable, too. It's a nature scene with an apple tree (whose apples you can pick and put in a basket) and several animals to play with - a cow, giraffe, elephant, and lion. Opposite the apple tree page is an alligator (or crocodile) with a bird on his nose and a zipper mouth. Underneath him in the water there are several fish that can velcro off the page and go inside of his mouth.

The last pages in the book are a flower page and a shape page. The flowers can button on and off of their stems and store in the flower pot. The shapes page has ridiculously cute shapes (I love how they're puffy/stuffed) which velcro off and can be matched the their embroidered shapes on the page.

It is an adorable book and looks so fun to play with. Thank you for sharing it with us, Yankee!

Debbie's Bible Creation Quiet Book

Like I mentioned in a post just a couple days ago, one of my favorite things about quiet books is how unique they all are. Machine sewn, hand sewn, hot-glued, felt, cotton, vinyl - they're all so different and personal. The lovely Bible Creation quiet book that I get to show you today, made by Debbie, is an excellent example of that. Debbie used printer fabric to print out her designs directly on to fabric, cut them out, and she was ready to go! She was able to easily create some really cute figures and graphics with this method. I've never heard of printer fabric before, but what a great idea for quiet books! It opens up a lot of possibilities for pages and figures. So enjoy Debbie's Creation Quiet Book (which goes through each day of the creation of the world), and remember printer fabric as a possibility in the future!

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence. 
Debbie - I am the mother of three grown children and a huge Disney fan.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they? 
 I made it to donate at a silent auction to raise funds for scholarships for students attending Florida College, a small Bible college in Tampa.

What's your level of sewing experience? 
Not too high - I only use my sewing machine for crafts.

How long did it take you?
Five hours or so - I rarely have time to sit and craft for a long period. This quiet book is easy to start and stop and start in again.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found? 
I use Colorfast Printer Fabric to print out the graphics. Printer fabric is super easy to use and makes very professional looking pages, especially when you aren't especially artistic and you don't have to have an applique machine to make good looking pages. I just discovered printer fabric a few months ago and have used it a lot ever since. You can find the graphics and directions at my Etsy store: Live for it Quiet Books.

How did you bind your quiet book? 
I use 1 1/2" album rings and a hole punch.

What material are the pages made out of? 
Felt with Peltex in between the pages for added stiffness.

What other materials did you use? 
Printer fabric, tacky glue, velcro, snaps, Heat-n-Bond.

How much did all the supplies cost you? 
Approximately $30-$40 dollars.

What's your favorite page? Why? 
The ladybug page (Day 6 of Creation) - there are so many things to do with it; the ladybug zips to hold Adam and Eve and their changes of clothes; the giraffe's spots can be snapped on and off and the tiger's tail moves back and forth - lots of fun to play with.

Havalah's Quiet Book

Happy New Year! I hope you had a good New Year's Eve and that today looks out on a bright year for you. I love the freshness of a new year and, like many of you, have some resolutions that I'm starting today. If you're trying to think of a resolution, might I suggest making a quiet book? Putting your ideas into action and actually creating this keepsake for a child you know could be a great project for you this year. :)

Going along with the freshness and brightness of the new year, I get to share a bright and crisp quiet book with you today! This awesome quiet book was made by Havalah from the blog Sisters, Sisters. (She, with her friends, also recently made a second quiet book in a quiet book exchange, which you can find here!) Her pages include activities based off art, scripture scenes, and nature scenes. And they are so colorful and fun! I know my own toddler would love her ocean page with all the different animals, and it makes me want to start making one right away. So enjoy Havalah's book, and be inspired!

I made it for my little boy when he was 18 months but he is now almost 3!

 Beginner to intermediate, depending on the project.

How long did it take you?
I have no idea.

I did individual pages and made button holes then used big rings to hold it together.

What material are the pages made out of? 
Cotton fabric, heavy duty pellon, felt, and some fleece.

I'm not sure exactly; it took me some time to do all the pages.

What's your favorite page? Why?
I love my shape pages and maze pages.
