Yankee's Quiet Book

Today's quiet book comes to us from Yankee, and it is so cute.

The front cover has a name sewn onto it, along with a car that has a little pocket. Peppa Pig and her family are finger puppets that fit into the pocket and look like they're driving in the car.

The book opens up to show a car page with several adorable little vehicles, including an ambulance and a fire truck, and several road signs (like a traffic light, stop sign, etc.). Across from the car page is a laundry page with a washing machine, lots of clothes, a clothes line, and socks that velcro off the page.

Next Yankee has a clock page with colorful numbers and moveable hands, and a shoe-tying page where children can practice making a bow.

Next comes one of my favorite pages - Cookie Monster! Cookie Monster's mouth zippers open and you can pull out a lot of cookies, each of which has a different number of chocolate chips sewn on top. These match to numbers on the next page, for children to practice counting and number recognition.

The next page is absolutely adorable, too. It's a nature scene with an apple tree (whose apples you can pick and put in a basket) and several animals to play with - a cow, giraffe, elephant, and lion. Opposite the apple tree page is an alligator (or crocodile) with a bird on his nose and a zipper mouth. Underneath him in the water there are several fish that can velcro off the page and go inside of his mouth.

The last pages in the book are a flower page and a shape page. The flowers can button on and off of their stems and store in the flower pot. The shapes page has ridiculously cute shapes (I love how they're puffy/stuffed) which velcro off and can be matched the their embroidered shapes on the page.

It is an adorable book and looks so fun to play with. Thank you for sharing it with us, Yankee!

Arahia's Quiet Book

Happy Monday, everybody! Happy Independence Day to all the Americans out there; I hope you had a good holiday weekend.

Today's quiet book comes to us from Michelle of the blog Sew Little Time. It is absolutely adorable and has so many cute pages. She made it for her daughter Arahia, and the cover has her name spelled out in letters that she can velcro on and off. It also has a little felt doll of Arahia, which is just as cute as can be.

The pages inside the book include a Disney princess dress up page, with outfits for Belle, Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty, and the wardrobe from Beauty and the Beast. Another page has an adorable toadstool (mushroom) house that zippers open to reveal three fairy finger puppets, and a door that opens to show a little gnome. The next page has a flower whose petals have numbers on them, and ladybugs on ribbons with numbers of dots on their backs that correspond to the petals. There's also an awesome cupcake decorating page, clown stacking rings page, owl puzzle page, ballerina shoe lace-up page, Rapunzel hair-braiding page, and a dog page with a collar that buckles. Enjoy!

Courtney's Harry Potter Quiet Book

I don't know about you, but I love Harry Potter. When I was a teenager I had the books on tape, and I think I listened to each of them about a hundred times. Last summer I reread the books for the first time in years, and enjoyed them just as much as ever.

Today I get to share with you an awesome Harry Potter Quiet Book made by the talented Courtney from the blog "Today I Felt Crafty" (which is such an adorable blog and you should really check it out). Her pages are so cute and creative and well made. I could write a paragraph about each one because I like them so much, but I'll restrain myself and just let you enjoy them on your own.

I really love this picture below because it shows so clearly how to construct a cover:

Plus it has some fun added detail on the back cover:

Starting on the activity pages, first there's a Gryffindor uniform button page:

Then she has a Room of Requirements "I Spy" page:

A Gringotts counting page:

A Grimmauld Place family tree:

A quidditch page:

A Triwizard Cup puzzle:

And a Dobby sock matching page:

Interview

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
My name is Courtney and I am a working mom who enjoys crafting at night.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I made this for my 18 month-old son, but he probably won't enjoy most of the activities until he's 2.

What's your level of sewing experience?
Advanced beginner? :)

How long did it take you?
It took me about two and half weeks to finish, working most nights after work. I probably spent a total of 15-20 hours on this book.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
I didn't use any templates, but I used Imagine Our Life's sock matching page for inspiration for one of my pages.

How did you bind your quiet book?
The cover is made from cotton fabric and firm interfacing to give it structure. The pages secure to the cover with binder rings.

What material are the pages made out of?
My pages have a layer of firm interfacing in between two layers of felt, and two grommets installed along the left edge.

What other materials did you use?
I used snaps, buttons, clear vinyl, assorted beads and trinkets, and plastic rings.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
The supplies probably cost me $50-$60 total, but I have a lot left over to use on other projects.

What's your favorite page? Why?
The quidditch page is my favorite, because it is my own design and came out exactly how I pictured it!

If you want to make any of  the pages from this book, you should really check out Courtney's post about it on her own blog: Today I Felt Crafty: Harry Potter Quiet Book Pages. It has more pictures and she explains exactly how she put together each page! Definitely check it out!

Additionally, here's her post on how she constructed the cover: Today I Felt Crafty: Harry Potter Quiet Book. And, because it's so cute, another quiet book she's made: Today I Felt Crafty: Feel the Weather Pillow Book. Her blog really is so cute and has lots of felt crafts, from play food to quiet mats to busy boards and, of course, quiet books.

Courtney, thank you so much for sharing your awesome Harry Potter quiet book with us!

Sarah's Quiet Book

Happy Monday! I hope the start of your week has been good. Today I get to share with you a beautiful quiet book made by Sarah, who made it for her nieces. She used lots of bright, colorful patterned fabrics that add so much life and interest to her quiet book. Her different pages include a chalkboard page, mailbox page (with handwritten letters inside), a color page, a dress up doll page (with a wardrobe full of little clothes), a memory flip page, a button and lace page where you can make shapes, and a counting page. It is an absolutely beautiful book. I can't get over the fantastic color page or all of the beautiful, unique little clothes for the dress up page. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Interview

What's your name? What's your level of sewing experience?
My name is Sarah and I just get such a kick out of sewing pretty things! I started with quilting, but have enjoyed the much faster results that come from quiet book piecing! I learned to sew basic embroidery and piecing from my mom and grandma when I was about six.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I made this book for my nieces, ages three and one; (more for the three year old, obviously.) :)

How long did it take you?
I have been doing sketches for it for over a year; but they have set in my "unfinished work" basket for months and months. I decided this Christmas would be the one-that-I-got-the-book-done. I have no idea how many hours it took, start to finish, but I would estimate around fifty. Eek.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
I used a template from Serving Pink Lemonade's blog for the paper doll-girl. I got the idea for the memory flip page from thisishappystuff.com (Busy Book: Memory Flip), but I improvised the execution of it.The other pages were inspired from various education and craft blogs and Pinterest.

How did you bind your quiet book?
The book is basically made out of three 12"x 24" mini-quilts. the first one is slightly longer, and serves for both covers. the other two quilts (which contain four pages; two on front and two on back) are sewed down the center directly onto the cover "quilt."

How much did all the supplies cost you?
Since I have done quite a bit of sewing and have a stash of scrap fabrics, I didn't have to buy anything specifically for this project except for some buttons, and iron-on vinyl (with which I covered the "letters" and "picture memory").

What's your favorite page? Why?
My favorite things about this book are: the letters to my nieces with the photos of the first time I met each of them, and the photo memory game, because those pages make it so personal to the girls. I enjoyed making the felt doll clothes the most, and reminiscing about past sewing projects I had done for my little people as I used scraps for the color/texture page. The book is absolutely full of good memories for me! I am working on one for my little sons now, and using some of their outgrown baby clothes, which makes is extra special to me.

Sarah, thank you for sharing your beautiful quiet book with us!
