Claudia's Teddy Bear Quiet Book

Today's quiet book is awesome. I mean really, really awesome. Made by Claudia of the blog Teeny Tiny Mom, this quiet book has a little teddy bear who children can play with in different scenes around his home. There's a nature scene with bees, little animals, and fish, a garden scene with a gate that opens, vegetables to pick, and a cloud they can make "rain," a bedroom where they can turn the bear's light on and off and put him to sleep, and a cozy house scene where they can give the teddy bear a bath or help him read in front of the fireplace.

The detail that is on every single page is really quite amazing; it is really quite beautiful and looks like a dream. It would be very fun to play with as a child. Please, enjoy!

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
My name is Claudia. I am a wife and mother of two children and can never hold my hands still.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
Maybe for my grandchildren, who do not exist yet. It is mainly for the fun of it.

What's your level of sewing experience?
I have been sewing for many years.

How long did it take you?
It took me about three months. I worked on it for some hours every day.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
No, I drew everything by myself.

How did you bind your quiet book?
I always sewed together two pages with bias tape and then sewed those pages together with a wide fabric tape.

What material are the pages made out of?
They are made of felt and fabric.

What other materials did you use?
Buttons, tape, foil, pearls, mirror foil, bells, wobbly eyes.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
They cost about EUR 60,00.

What's your favorite page? Why?
I love the page with the tiny bed. That could be me, because I love reading in bed.

Paula's Quiet Book

Today's quiet book is so cute and it looks so fun to play with. Made by Paula for her two children, this book has lots of great activities for children to play with. Even the cover has an activity - a mailbox with a flag that goes up and down, and that opens to show letters inside that can be taken out. The cover also has a buckle to keep the pages shut, which is a smart way to keep everything together.

Paula says that her favorite page is her fridge and place setting, and I have to say, I love that page too. Her refrigerator design is so clever, cute, and easy. The food (sandwich materials) that go inside are adorable, and make me want to put together a felt sandwich right now. It looks so fun! I also like her barn and farm page, and like how she combined the apple tree and farm pages from the original template. I think it's a definite improvement, and looks really cute. Her cute music pages finish off the book, both of which are unique and fun!

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence. 
My name is Paula and I am a full time working mother of 2 children.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I made the quite book for my almost 5-year-old son and almost 2-year-old daughter. I wasn’t sure if I could commit to making two books so I had to try to make it appropriate for both of my children.

What's your level of sewing experience? 
Beginner / Intermediate. I have always been into crafts but only really been interested in sewing for the past 6 months.

How long did it take you?
3 weeks. 2 to 4 hours a day on most days.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
I used mostly templates and inspiration from this blog (The Quiet Book Blog) and Pinterest.

Sewed it on the sewing machine.

What material are the pages made out of? 
The book was made from cotton and batting on each page. For most pages there is a full sheet of felt sewed to the cotton and batting backing.

What other materials did you use? 
A buckle to close the book, snaps, and velcro.

How much did all the supplies cost you? 
About $40 to $50 but I have a lot of supplies left over.

What's your favorite page? Why? 
I like the refrigerator and place setting with sandwich. I think that is one of the pages that I can add to as I think of different things.

Clara's Quiet Book

Today's post is special because we've never had a quiet book presented like this before. Clara from the blog Claras Nahkiste, instead of taking pictures of her quiet book, has made this video where she walks through the book and shows all of the interactive things that it does.

Clara's quiet book is huge and awesome. She has so many pages, and all of them look so fun to play with. Her video shows a clever cover and binding rings, a dress up page full of little clothes, a name page with moveable letters, a laundry page with socks that can go in a washing machine, an "I Spy" page with a removable bag full of things to find, a fruit-picking tree page (with multiple kinds of fruits and baskets, a weather and flower page,  a farm page (with adorable finger puppets - sooo cute), an igloo page with ice building blocks and snow characters, a car page with a big map of the town, an elephant with a tail you can braid, a camping page with a zipper tent, a clock page with moveable hands, and a mailbox with letters inside. Each page has more detail than I've summed up here, that's shown in the video. 

This book would be such a treasure to have as a child!

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence. 
My name is Clara, I'm 23 and I'm a crazy, sewing, Berlin teacher-to-be.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
 I made this book for my niece and godchild Sophie for her third birthday.

What's your level of sewing experience? 
I sew for more than three years now and I think I'm advanced.

How long did it take you?
I sew it over three weeks, in my semester break, all in all it took 66 hours.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
I used some templates from this blog and many inspirations from Pinterest.

What material are the pages made out of? 
They all are made of cotton fabric in different colors, many details are made out of felt.

What other materials did you use? 
Felt, as mentioned and something that's called Vliesofix in Germany. It's used to make appliqués.

How much did all the supplies cost you? 
Because I bought nearly no fabric, the costs were small. I think about 30€.
  
What's your favorite page? Why?
My favourite page is definitely the car-page. I love, that the lights of the car can flash and that my niece can visit her grandmothers or grandfathers house. It's also the page, she likes most :)

Kelsey's Quiet Book

Today's quiet book comes to us all the way from Cameroon, Africa where Kelsey is a missionary wife and mother. She made this cute book for her toddler nephew. It's got lots of fun interactive pages, like a page where you can go fishing, a rocketship that slides back and forth, bead counting, ABC flaps, and an awesome car page. I love the different roads that her car pages have. And I like all the different fabrics and backgrounds Kelsey used! Check it out!

Sarah's Quiet Book

Happy Monday! I hope the start of your week has been good. Today I get to share with you a beautiful quiet book made by Sarah, who made it for her nieces. She used lots of bright, colorful patterned fabrics that add so much life and interest to her quiet book. Her different pages include a chalkboard page, mailbox page (with handwritten letters inside), a color page, a dress up doll page (with a wardrobe full of little clothes), a memory flip page, a button and lace page where you can make shapes, and a counting page. It is an absolutely beautiful book. I can't get over the fantastic color page or all of the beautiful, unique little clothes for the dress up page. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

What's your name? What's your level of sewing experience?

My name is Sarah and I just get such a kick out of sewing pretty things! I started with quilting, but have enjoyed the much faster results that come from quiet book piecing! I learned to sew basic embroidery and piecing from my mom and grandma when I was about six.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I made this book for my nieces, ages three and one; (more for the three year old, obviously.) :)

How long did it take you?
I have been doing sketches for it for over a year; but they have set in my "unfinished work" basket for months and months. I decided this Christmas would be the one-that-I-got-the-book-done. I have no idea how many hours it took, start to finish, but I would estimate around fifty. Eek.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
I used a template from Serving Pink Lemonade's blog for the paper doll-girl. I got the idea for the memory flip page from thisishappystuff.com (Busy Book: Memory Flip), but I improvised the execution of it.The other pages were inspired from various education and craft blogs and Pinterest.

How did you bind your quiet book?
The book is basically made out of three 12"x 24" mini-quilts. the first one is slightly longer, and serves for both covers. the other two quilts (which contain four pages; two on front and two on back) are sewed down the center directly onto the cover "quilt."

How much did all the supplies cost you?
Since I have done quite a bit of sewing and have a stash of scrap fabrics, I didn't have to buy anything specifically for this project except for some buttons, and iron-on vinyl (with which I covered the "letters" and "picture memory").

What's your favorite page? Why?
My favorite things about this book are: the letters to my nieces with the photos of the first time I met each of them, and the photo memory game, because those pages make it so personal to the girls. I enjoyed making the felt doll clothes the most, and reminiscing about past sewing projects I had done for my little people as I used scraps for the color/texture page. The book is absolutely full of good memories for me! I am working on one for my little sons now, and using some of their outgrown baby clothes, which makes is extra special to me.
