Ramya's No-Sew Quiet Book

Making a quiet book can be intimidating for a lot of people; if you haven't sewed anything before or if you think all the supplies will cost too much, it can be hard to get started. Ramya of the blog Ramya DIY, shows that this needn't be the case though. She created this quiet book with no sewing at all and all the supplies costing her only $7! How she did it was with a hot glue gun, felt, and foam sheets. She has so many cute pages that a child would love to play with. Enjoy!

Paula's Quiet Book

Today's quiet book is so cute and it looks so fun to play with. Made by Paula for her two children, this book has lots of great activities for children to play with. Even the cover has an activity - a mailbox with a flag that goes up and down, and that opens to show letters inside that can be taken out. The cover also has a buckle to keep the pages shut, which is a smart way to keep everything together.

Paula says that her favorite page is her fridge and place setting, and I have to say, I love that page too. Her refrigerator design is so clever, cute, and easy. The food (sandwich materials) that go inside are adorable, and make me want to put together a felt sandwich right now. It looks so fun! I also like her barn and farm page, and like how she combined the apple tree and farm pages from the original template. I think it's a definite improvement, and looks really cute. Her cute music pages finish off the book, both of which are unique and fun!

Interview

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
My name is Paula and I am a full time working mother of 2 children.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I made the quite book for my almost 5-year-old son and almost 2-year-old daughter. I wasn’t sure if I could commit to making two books so I had to try to make it appropriate for both of my children.

What's your level of sewing experience?
Beginner / Intermediate. I have always been into crafts but only really been interested in sewing for the past 6 months.

How long did it take you?
3 weeks. 2 to 4 hours a day on most days.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
I used mostly templates and inspiration from this blog (The Quiet Book Blog) and Pinterest.
Mailbox on the cover: Template - Imagine Our Life: Mailbox & Letters Quiet Book Page.
Refrigerator and Place Setting: Inspiration from: Sabrina’s Quite Book
Mr. Potato Head, Farm, Tree, and Lady Bug: Templates from Jocelyn's Quiet Book
Shapes and Music Pages: Inspiration from Pinterest but my own templates.

How did you bind your quiet book?
Sewed it on the sewing machine.

What material are the pages made out of?
The book was made from cotton and batting on each page. For most pages there is a full sheet of felt sewed to the cotton and batting backing.

What other materials did you use?
A buckle to close the book, snaps, and velcro.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
About $40 to $50 but I have a lot of supplies left over.

What's your favorite page? Why?
I like the refrigerator and place setting with sandwich. I think that is one of the pages that I can add to as I think of different things.

Paula, thank you so much for sharing your awesome quiet book with us!

Clara's Quiet Book

Today's post is special because we've never had a quiet book presented like this before. Clara from the blog Claras Nahkiste, instead of taking pictures of her quiet book, has made this video where she walks through the book and shows all of the interactive things that it does.

Clara's quiet book is huge and awesome. She has so many pages, and all of them look so fun to play with. Her video shows a clever cover and binding rings, a dress up page full of little clothes, a name page with moveable letters, a laundry page with socks that can go in a washing machine, an "I Spy" page with a removable bag full of things to find, a fruit-picking tree page (with multiple kinds of fruits and baskets, a weather and flower page,  a farm page (with adorable finger puppets - sooo cute), an igloo page with ice building blocks and snow characters, a car page with a big map of the town, an elephant with a tail you can braid, a camping page with a zipper tent, a clock page with moveable hands, and a mailbox with letters inside. Each page has more detail than I've summed up here, that's shown in the video.

This book would be such a treasure to have as a child!

Interview

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
My name is Clara, I'm 23 and I'm a crazy, sewing, Berlin teacher-to-be.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I made this book for my niece and godchild Sophie for her third birthday.

What's your level of sewing experience?
I sew for more than three years now and I think I'm advanced.

How long did it take you?
I sew it over three weeks, in my semester break, all in all it took 66 hours.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
I used some templates from this blog and many inspirations from Pinterest.

What material are the pages made out of?
They all are made of cotton fabric in different colors, many details are made out of felt.

What other materials did you use?
Felt, as mentioned and something that's called Vliesofix in Germany. It's used to make appliqués.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
Because I bought nearly no fabric, the costs were small. I think about 30€.

What's your favorite page? Why?
My favourite page is definitely the car-page. I love, that the lights of the car can flash and that my niece can visit her grandmothers or grandfathers house. It's also the page, she likes most :)

Helga's Quiet Book

Today's wonderful quiet book comes from Helga in Switzerland. She has three daughters, who she made a quiet book for when they were children. Now they're older, and have children of their own. Since one quiet book can't easily be shared amongst three families, Helga made two more quiet books for them.

Similar to the printer fabric technique use by Debbie in making her bible quiet book, Helga printed pictures on to transfer paper, which she then transferred to the fabric. Doing so gave her book such a cool look! I love the different details in the book - the dresser, bed, wardrobe, oven - really everything in the whole house. And her granddaughters colored on transfer paper for the cover, which is just so cute. So, please enjoy Helga's quiet book!

Interview

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
My name is Helga. I live in Switzerland; I am a nurse and I am 60 years old.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I made one quiet book 30 years ago for my 3 daughters. Now they have grown up and have only one book to share for their future children. So I now made two others for my twins.

What's your level of sewing experience?
My level of sewing experience is basic. I never sew clothes.

How long did it take you?
The most time I spent on choosing illustrations, colors and some templates. It's hard to say how much time is was, but it is definitely time consuming.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
I used the doll pattern of Sarah Jane. From my kid's, I changed their portrait photos into drawings to use their head with the paper doll body.

How did you bind your quiet book?
I sew the inside pages to the cover.

What material are the pages made out of?
I used cotton fabric.

What other materials did you use?
I used transfer paper to print patterns on fabric.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
About $50. The most expensive was the transfer paper and the colors of the printer.

What's your favorite page? Why?
The cover made from their drawing (transfer drawing on fabric). It's my favorite because they did it.

Thank you so much for sharing your lovely quiet book with us, Helga!

Rebecca's Quiet Book

First off, I just want to remind you to go enter this week's giveaway if you haven't already! Click here or on the picture below to go to Monday's post. Scroll down to the bottom to enter through Rafflecopter.

http://quietbookblog.blogspot.com/2014/08/old-testament-quiet-book-pdf-pattern.html

Now, on to today's awesome quiet book! Made by Rebecca of Mellymoo Papercrafting for her nephew, this book actually uses a lot of the Quiet Book Blog's free templates. I love the way she uses them and all the details she adds! I really really love all the details Rebecca added on the car page. The driveways and connecting roads and tunnel are all such great ideas, as are the cute little houses and the castle and all the other details.

Some of the other pages she made include a kite page, a fishing page (in which the fish and the hooks have magnets inside, so that you can "catch the fish" with the hook), a shape matching and memory page, a laundry page, and a stars and rocket page. All of them are so cute and well done. I love the laundry line on the laundry page - the colorful little shirts on their little clothespins look so fun to play with!

To top it all off, Rebecca made this a counting book. Each page counts up one number - one kite, two fish, three flowers, four farm animals, and so on. It's a great idea, and she does it so well! Each page's items count up so logically and naturally.

All right, I'll stop rambling, so you can actually look at Rebecca's book! Enjoy!

Interview

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
Rebecca, I’m a logical but creative person who really loves keeping busy!

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I made it for Ethan, my one and only nephew for his 2nd birthday.

What's your level of sewing experience?
My Mum was a dressmaker and I’ve always dabbled with sewing I even made so of my own clothes when I was younger. However, my preference for sewing was always being creative- making things without patterns like quilts, cushion covers, bags etc.

How long did it take you?
At first I tried working on the book in the evenings but as I decided to add more pages the time increased- I did most of the work during a week off work. In total I must have spent 30 hours working on it.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
I did use some templates to get me going on my first pages, they can be found on the quite book blog. http://quietbookblog.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/free-quiet-book-template.html

How did you bind your quiet book?
Each pages is made of two sheets of felt which are sewn back-to back, some of the pages have added ribbon trim. To bind the book together I used my Cropadile to punch holes in the edges and then I added eyelets and finally threaded ribbon through.

What material are the pages made out of?
All the pages are made from felt.

What other materials did you use?
Velcro, press-studs, buttons, embroidery thread, magnets, lollypop stick, thread, sequins, net, foam car shapes, eyelets, wobbly eyes- I think that’s it.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
I didn’t keep a running total but I would say between £15-£20, mostly because of the number of sheets of felt I had to buy. I had most of the other bits and bobs in my craft supplies already.
