Lou's Quiet Book

Today's quiet book is made by Lou, a stay-at-home mom who also makes custom quiet books for sale. This is a quiet book that she made for her son, and it's got a bunch of fun pages! Shape matching (with jungle animals), mix-and-match pairs, beads to learn to count, and colors and zippers to practice with. Enjoy!

Interview

What's your name?
My name is Lou. I am a stay-at home mom and I love crafting.

Who did you make this quiet book for?
I made this quiet book for my son. He is 23 months old now.

What's your level of sewing experience?
My sewing experience is mostly limited to just hand-stitching torn hems or patching holes.

How long did it take you?
It is hard to say how long it took me to finish my quiet books because I only do it when my son is sleeping and when I am free but is within the span of 2 weeks.

Did you use any templates?
I didn't use any templates. I did the letter and number cutting myself but the rest is ready-made. I searched online for ideas on design.

How did you bind your quiet book?
I bound it by thread.

What material are the pages made out of?
I used felt and denims for covers to add contrast.

What's your favorite page? Why?
The zipper is my favorite page because my son loves it the most.

Lou makes quiet books for sale; you can see them on her Facebook page Quiet Book by Bluegem. Thank you Lou, for sharing your quiet book with us!

Wendy's Quiet Book

Today's quiet book comes to us from Wendy, a grandmother living in Spain and author of the blog Spanish Crafter. It's very cute and has some great ideas. Some of the things I love about it are the buttons on her weaving page (such a great way to keep the fabric strips from flopping everywhere!), the bead page with tons of beads on strings, the alphabet bead page with square beads that can be rotated around to spell new words, the adorable flower page, and the alphabet page with letter flaps.

There's lots of great ideas in here! Enjoy!

Interview

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
My name is Wendy L (Spanish Crafter) and I am 57 years old, retired and living in Spain.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?

I have 3 grandchildren, so this is for the eldest granddaughter Hollie who is 3 years old.

What's your level of sewing experience?

I used to sew when my sons were little and I had to buy a new sewing machine to make this book as mine was over 34 years old.

How long did it take you?
This took me about 2 to 3 weeks, maybe 40 or 50 hours in total.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?

I looked on Pinterest and YouTube for inspiration.

How did you bind your quiet book?

I used a Crop o Dial to punch holes and  grommets with 2 1a d 1/2 inch rings to bind it.

What material are the pages made out of?
It is made from felt as that means no fraying.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
Hard to say how much it cost as I am a card maker so many of the things I used I already had in stock.

What's your favorite page? Why?
Hard to choose a fave page as I like them all and hope Hollie will too.  I like the counting page with the buttons underneath each flap.

Yankee's Quiet Book

Today's quiet book comes to us from Yankee, and it is so cute.

The front cover has a name sewn onto it, along with a car that has a little pocket. Peppa Pig and her family are finger puppets that fit into the pocket and look like they're driving in the car.

The book opens up to show a car page with several adorable little vehicles, including an ambulance and a fire truck, and several road signs (like a traffic light, stop sign, etc.). Across from the car page is a laundry page with a washing machine, lots of clothes, a clothes line, and socks that velcro off the page.

Next Yankee has a clock page with colorful numbers and moveable hands, and a shoe-tying page where children can practice making a bow.

Next comes one of my favorite pages - Cookie Monster! Cookie Monster's mouth zippers open and you can pull out a lot of cookies, each of which has a different number of chocolate chips sewn on top. These match to numbers on the next page, for children to practice counting and number recognition.

The next page is absolutely adorable, too. It's a nature scene with an apple tree (whose apples you can pick and put in a basket) and several animals to play with - a cow, giraffe, elephant, and lion. Opposite the apple tree page is an alligator (or crocodile) with a bird on his nose and a zipper mouth. Underneath him in the water there are several fish that can velcro off the page and go inside of his mouth.

The last pages in the book are a flower page and a shape page. The flowers can button on and off of their stems and store in the flower pot. The shapes page has ridiculously cute shapes (I love how they're puffy/stuffed) which velcro off and can be matched the their embroidered shapes on the page.

It is an adorable book and looks so fun to play with. Thank you for sharing it with us, Yankee!

Winnie's Quiet Book

Today's adorable quiet book comes to us from Winnie of the blog Be A Creative Mom. She hand-sewed the entire thing in just about a week, which is seriously impressive! I love the look that hand-sewing gives quiet books, and I especially love the embroidery that Winnie added to the front and back covers.

In addition to the awesome embroidered covers, Winnie's quiet book has a safari animals page (the animals are hanging on buttons, and can be removed and played with), a purse page (with toys to find inside), a shapes page, a numbers page (which flaps that lift up with objects underneath for children to count), a telephone page (with velcro numbers), a bee and flowers string page, a ribbon page, and an octopus page (with beads on his tentacles to count).

Interview

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
My name is Winnie; I am a mom of 2 living in Singapore.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I made this book for my one-year-old daughter.

What's your level of sewing experience? How long did it take you?
I consider myself a intermediate sewer, as I hand sew lots of stuff. My speed is actually decent. The book took me about one week to finish while sewing 2 hours a day. So roughly 14-15 hours.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
I used some from online. I don't remember all of the resources so just listed what I can find as below. Just want to say thank you to all the fantastic moms who posted their templates.
The purse page is from Apron Girls: Quiet Book.
Ribbon page is from And Next Comes L: Ribbon Pulling Quiet Book Page.
Forgot where the octopus and bee is from... But they are super famous quiet book pages!

How did you bind your quiet book?
Just by sewing.

What material are the pages made out of?
Felt.

What other materials did you use?
Beads, ribbons, yarn, velcro, a key, a card, etc.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
About $15-20.

What's your favorite page? Why?
I simply love them all... I worked quite a bit to design and find pages suit my 1 yr old girl. My girl loves the octopus beads page the most.

Sami's ABC Quiet Book

Today is the third and final quiet book from Sami of Diary of an Overworked Mum's Kid Spot. This one is an ABC book. It's not the whole thing, more of a "sneak peak." I think she'll eventually post the whole thing on her blog. I really like everything she's done on these pages - the alien finger puppet on the A page, the velcro number blocks, the super cute ladybug with zipper, the mitten with polka-dot ribbon, and the peekaboo alien. Take a look!

Interview
(The answers in this interview also refer to Sami's other two quiet books, one of which posted on Monday and one of which posted on Wednesday.)

What is your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
My name is Sami. I am currently a stay at home in Brisbane, Australia.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I made them for my three children who are 6, 4 and 2.

What is your level of sewing experience?
Beginner. My "On The Farm" quiet book was my first ever sewing project.

How long did it take you?
I honestly could not say exactly, maybe about a week or two for each book with about 2-6 hours a day. With them being my first sewing projects and having no one to teach me anything it was made up of a lot of trial and error.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
I used no templates; however, I did use some ideas that I found online.

How did you bind your quiet books?
I just kind of poked a hole in the pages and stuck binder rings through them.

What material are the pages made out of?
Felt.

What other materials did you use?
Just felt and ribbon.

How much did all the supplies cost you?
I don't know exactly but it was definitely in the hundreds.

What's your favorite page? Why?
I think the ladybug is my favorite. Probably because it was my first zipper and press studs and I felt like they turned up really well.

Alicia and Patrick's Quiet Book

Merry couple-days-after-Christmas! I hope everyone has had a great holiday week, and that things are looking good for the new year next week!

Today I get to share a seriously awesome quiet book with you. This is made by Alicia and Patrick of Felt With Love Designs, a very cool blog focused on kids' activities. Patrick does all of the designs, and Alicia transfers his art to patterns and then stitches them on to whatever they are making. And these pages are seriously impressive! The first few (the Ocean Counting page and the Sock Matching page) are based off pages from Imagine Our Life, and the others (the Dinosaur Shapes, Spongebob Squarepants, Halloween, and Thanksgiving pages) are all original. The detail put into each page is amazing. (Have I ever mentioned that I love how hand-stitching looks? Love it.) Every page has cool characteristics  - the socks have magnets in them, for example, so that they can stick to their mate. I also like that they're planning for the pages to be interchangeable; that would be great for the seasonal holiday pages.

Enjoy this awesome quiet book, and check out Alicia and Patrick's blog for more pages in the future!

Interview

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
Our names are Alicia and Patrick. We do quiet book pages, as well as many other children's things. My husband does all of our designs (he is the artist!) and I transfer his art to patterns and then stitch them into whatever we are making.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
We make the pages for our daughter who is two years old.

What's your level of sewing experience?
I have been sewing since elementary school (although I stopped for several years and just recently picked it up again because I wanted to create some neat things for our daughter!) My husband has been drawing his entire life. (He's very talented. We have just a couple samples of what he is capable of up on our blog.)

How long did it take you?
Each page takes me about a week to do (the complicated ones are more) once I have a sketch. I work on it when I have a few spare moments. It takes my husband anywhere from ten minutes to a week to get a sketch perfected for me, depending on the complexity.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
Some are done from patterns on Imagine our Life. We plan to offer some of ours (of our original designs) for free download from our page.

How did you bind your quiet book?
I haven't bound any of my pages yet. I'm still contemplating how I want to finish the edges. I plan to do something similar to Imagine Our Life with the binding because I want my pages to be interchangeable.

What material are the pages made out of? What other materials did you use?
So far, I have only used felt in my pages (except thread and vinyl, obviously).

How much did all the supplies cost you?
I haven't added up a total for supplies. I try to use stuff I already have at home and use coupons when I need things.

What's your favorite page?
My favorite page(s) are the ones Imagine Our Life is currently featuring (the world map) although there are a million more of her designs I like too! Of mine, my favorite is probably the dinosaurs and shapes page!

Each page has its own post with helpful instructions, pictures, and (for several of the original designs) templates. Look for new quiet book pages from them in the future, too. Thank you again, Alicia and Patrick, for sharing your talents with us!
