Ramya's No-Sew Quiet Book

Making a quiet book can be intimidating for a lot of people; if you haven't sewed anything before or if you think all the supplies will cost too much, it can be hard to get started. Ramya of the blog Ramya DIY, shows that this needn't be the case though. She created this quiet book with no sewing at all and all the supplies costing her only $7! How she did it was with a hot glue gun, felt, and foam sheets. She has so many cute pages that a child would love to play with. Enjoy!

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence. 
My name is Ramya, I am a stay-at-home-mom.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they? 
I made this book for my one year old son.

What's your level of sewing experience? 
Zero.

How long did it take you? 
It took me about 20 hours.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found? 
No, I have used my own basic drawing skills.

How did you bind your quiet book? 
I used a mini hot glue gun and stuck al the page to the spine of the book cover.

What material are the pages made out of? 
They are made of felt.

What other materials did you use? 
I also used foam sheets alternatively with felt for the design on each page.

How much did all the supplies cost book? 
Including the mini hot glue gun it cost me just around $7.

What's your favorite page? Why? 
I love the outer space pages because I think I got all the elements and color co-ordination correct.

Paula's ABC Quiet Book

Today's fantastic quiet book was made by mom Paula, who writes the blog "Making it up as I go."  She sewed pages for every single letter of the alphabet to help her girls learn their letters. Each page has the letter and several different items that start with that letter - for example, the "A" page has an embroidered apple, arrow, and ant. This book has so much cute embroidery - I love all the ideas Paula came up with for each letter! Please, enjoy!

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence. 
Paula! Stay at home mum, sewing nut, generally driven by the bizarre thought that I must be productive with everything I do.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
My girls who are two and a half and one.

What's your level of sewing experience? 
Intermediate.

How long did it take you?
About four or five hours over six weeks. I was planning on it taking longer, but I put the pedal to the metal to get it done while my two year old was interested in learning letters.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found? 
Nope. Everything came out of my head or from the scrap box and onto the page.

How did you bind your quiet book? 
Button holes and cord.

What material are the pages made out of? 
The pages themselves are bedsheets that I recycled.

What other materials did you use? 
Felt, cotton, scraps of who knows what, drill, rubber table protector, buttons, velvet, beads, cords, zip.

How much did all the supplies cost you? 
I aimed to make all of it from what I already had (hence cutting up the old bed sheet for the pages), but I did buy some of the fancy buttons and the ABC print fabrics too. Probably about $40.00 AUD all up.

What's your favorite page? Why? 
I love the C page for the simple reason that the car wheels turn.

What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence.
Kerry Lee-Crawford - The woman who LOVES to share, create and grow.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
I made this book twice at the same time for my twin step-daughters for their 7th Birthday in August 2015.

What's your level of sewing experience?
Advanced, I am actually a textile artist and have sewn since I was a child. I have my Visual Arts diploma, major in Textiles from the Alberta College of Art and Design, and I also have a BA in Art Education.

How long did it take you?
These books took me a few months, and I didn't work steady at them. I began in June 2015 and worked on them at my own pace. No idea how many hours....many, many days though.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
For some of my pages I used other templates, like the Armour of God and I took the idea of the missionary tie and created my own patterns from what I saw. Other pages I created myself by finding LDS clip art or by looking at primary lesson pages to get ideas for the Repentance and Priesthood pages. I sketched everything else out first, then I went to work. I found many of my clip art online from various places.

How did you bind your quiet book?
I wanted to have a stable and well sewn book that would last a long time. I created each page on its own, then I sewed pages to each other leaving the left side open. I used pinking sheer scissors to trim around the sewn pages. I then used a colour strip of fabric to sew both set of pages together leaving a wide enough space to be sewn down the middle of the spine. I just like the look and feel of it. I explain this more in detail on my blog.

What material are the pages made out of?
Each page is made of either denim or upholstery fabric. I wanted each page to be thicker than just regular fabric, so it would hold up as the girls turned the pages. I could have used interfacing on the back of fabric, but I had a lot of denim and upholstery fabric and I wanted to get rid of it. Waste not, want not.

What other materials did you use?
I LOVE my fine tipped black fabric pen. It was very versatile and saved me lots of time and headaches. I also used fabric, applique fusible webbing, freezer paper, yarn, snaps, and velcro...oh...and let's not forget real pink blush, yup...you read right! (for the cheeks!!)

How much did all the supplies cost you?
I already had much of my supplies in my studio. I think I only had to buy the snaps and yarn...maybe $20??

What's your favourite page? Why?
There are so many that I like, but I'm really impressed how the girl head with brown hair turned out. I found a silhouette picture of a girl online and used it as the base. I wanted it to look like a beautiful girl and so I added my special touches with my fabric pen and cheek blush, as well as the lace collar and pretty button for the broach. I wanted real thick hair too, so I doubled the yarn. Needless to say....it's the girls' favourite page too!!! I have to remind them there are other pages as well!

Arahia's Quiet Book

Happy Monday, everybody! Happy Independence Day to all the Americans out there; I hope you had a good holiday weekend.

Today's quiet book comes to us from Michelle of the blog Sew Little Time. It is absolutely adorable and has so many cute pages. She made it for her daughter Arahia, and the cover has her name spelled out in letters that she can velcro on and off. It also has a little felt doll of Arahia, which is just as cute as can be.

The pages inside the book include a Disney princess dress up page, with outfits for Belle, Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty, and the wardrobe from Beauty and the Beast. Another page has an adorable toadstool (mushroom) house that zippers open to reveal three fairy finger puppets, and a door that opens to show a little gnome. The next page has a flower whose petals have numbers on them, and ladybugs on ribbons with numbers of dots on their backs that correspond to the petals. There's also an awesome cupcake decorating page, clown stacking rings page, owl puzzle page, ballerina shoe lace-up page, Rapunzel hair-braiding page, and a dog page with a collar that buckles. What's your name? Describe yourself in one sentence. 
My name is Michelle, I have two beautiful children and I love to craft in my spare time.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they? 
This book was made for my daughter, Arahia. She is only 8 months old but my four year old son is currently enjoying it. Although, he does tell me it’s a bit too girly for him.

What's your level of sewing experience? 
I am probably an advanced beginner.

How long did it take you?
This took me a couple of months of mainly sewing during nap times.

Did you use any templates? Where can they be found? 
I copied, adapted and stole most of my ideas of Pinterest. I have tried to list all of these over on my blog: http://craftyexpatmamanz.blogspot.co.nz/

How did you bind your quiet book? 
I bound this book together using eyelets and binder rings.

What material are the pages made out of?
Mainly fabric and felt.

What other materials did you use? 
Lots of bits and pieces from my stash.

Probably around $25.

What's your favorite page? Why? 
I love the dress up doll page. I loved all the Disney movies as a child.
