Making a quiet book can be intimidating for a lot of people; if you haven't sewed anything before or if you think all the supplies will cost too much, it can be hard to get started. Ramya of the blog Ramya DIY, shows that this needn't be the case though. She created this quiet book with no sewing at all and all the supplies costing her only $7! How she did it was with a hot glue gun, felt, and foam sheets. She has so many cute pages that a child would love to play with. Enjoy!

I made this book for my one year old son.
What's your level of sewing experience?
Zero.
How long did it take you?
It took me about 20 hours.
Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
No, I have used my own basic drawing skills.
How did you bind your quiet book?
I used a mini hot glue gun and stuck al the page to the spine of the book cover.
What material are the pages made out of?
They are made of felt.
What other materials did you use?
I also used foam sheets alternatively with felt for the design on each page.
How much did all the supplies cost book?
Including the mini hot glue gun it cost me just around $7.
What's your favorite page? Why?
I love the outer space pages because I think I got all the elements and color co-ordination correct.
Hi everyone, happy Friday! I hope you've all had a good week. The quiet book I get to share with you today comes all the way from São Paulo, Brazil. Made by Amanda for her friend's son, this book is seriously awesome and just bursting with fun activities.
Amanda's has so many fun pages. It starts right off with an interactive cover, where the child's name is spelled out in letters that can velcro on and off of the page, and be stored in a pocket on the front. After the cover is unclasped and opened, you see a clown holding several colorful balloons. These can are also attached with velcro, and they can be switched around to the different color strings, or stored in the clown's sleeve. Opposite the clown is Mike Wazowski from Pixar's "Monster's Inc." Mike's mouth can be unzipped to reveal shapes that match the shapes on his page.
The next page has a car scene, with roads to drive on, a traffic light whose lights can be changed, and lots of different vehicles including a fire truck, ambulance, and cement mixing truck. The next page has a train with many different colored cars, each with a number to help practice counting.
The next page spread is an outer space scene, with a rocket, astronaut, comets, planets, aliens, and spaceships.When you turn the page again, you find a boy at a table. His mouth can be unzipped and you can pull a lot of different kinds of food out (a carrot, egg, watermelon, cookie chicken, etc.) that can be put on the plate in front of him and then "eaten." Next is a dog with a collar to buckle, a bone, and a dog house.
After the dog, the next page spread is a forest scene with all sorts of animals to play with and fun things to do. There's finger puppets of a rabbit, bear, squirrel, hedgehog, garden gnome, and fox, plus trees, a sun and raincloud that can move, a rainbow, a mushroom house, and more. I think this is my favorite page!
Next come an apple trees that also has a bee you can string through loops to get back to his beehive, and a frog that catches flies with his tongue. Then there's a sports page with a soccer ball to weave and a shoe to lace up, and finally, there's a dress up page with a little boy and a wardrobe full of clothes for him to wear.

My friend asked me to make this quiet book for his son, Bernardo, who is 2 years old.
What's your level of sewing experience?
I'm a beginner. I learn something every day!!
How long did it take you?
I did this book on my vacation. I spent 15 days about 8 hours per day.
Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
The templates were designed by me and my husband, Samuel (he is art director and he helped me a lot!), always inspired by many google images.
How did you bind your quiet book?
The pages are sewn to each other by a piece of fabric on sewing machine.
What material are the pages made out of?
The cover was made in fabric and the inside pages of felt. For the "stuffing," acrylic blanket.
What other materials did you use?
I also used thread, ribbon, rings, buttons, velcro, pearls and zipper.
How much did all the supplies cost you?
I probably spent about R$ 150 (US$ 50).
What's your favorite page? Why?
My favorite page is the Enchanted Forest and its finger puppets.

My two-year-old has recently become obsessed with Toy Story. She watches at least one Toy Story movie a day (sometimes two) and runs around at night proclaiming that she's Buzz Lightyear. So I was especially delighted when Magda (who made this incredible Christmas quiet book) made and sent me a Toy Story quiet book!
This book is awesome. It's so cute and so well made. The first page has a matching Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and three of the green little aliens. The second page is a dress-up Mr. Potato Head page. The third page is a "Pizza Planet" page, with pizza slices that have different numbers of pepperoni pieces for counting. That's followed by a piggy bank/color matching page. Finally, the last page has Lotso, with different trashcans and a trash truck for matching shapes.
I love this quiet book and wish I had one for my Toy-Story-obsessed little girl. It looks so fun!

The Toy Story Book was a birthday gift for a 3-year-old boy.
What's your level of sewing experience?
Although I've been sewing for a year now I still consider myself to be a beginner.
How long did it take you?
Each book for about 3 weeks. I sew mostly in the evenings for about 2-3 hours.
Today is the third and final quiet book from Sami of Diary of an Overworked Mum's Kid Spot. This one is an ABC book. It's not the whole thing, more of a "sneak peak." I think she'll eventually post the whole thing on her blog. I really like everything she's done on these pages - the alien finger puppet on the A page, the velcro number blocks, the super cute ladybug with zipper, the mitten with polka-dot ribbon, and the peekaboo alien. I made them for my three children who are 6, 4 and 2.

Beginner. My "On The Farm" quiet book was my first ever sewing project.
How long did it take you?
I honestly could not say exactly, maybe about a week or two for each book with about 2-6 hours a day. With them being my first sewing projects and having no one to teach me anything it was made up of a lot of trial and error.
Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
I used no templates; however, I did use some ideas that I found online.
How did you bind your quiet books?
I just kind of poked a hole in the pages and stuck binder rings through them.
What material are the pages made out of?
Felt.
What other materials did you use?
Just felt and ribbon.

I don't know exactly but it was definitely in the hundreds.

I think the ladybug is my favorite. Probably because it was my first zipper and press studs and I felt like they turned up really well.

Today we have two quiet books that come to us from Emma of Southern Belle Sewing. Emma is actually just in her teens, and she made these for two of her younger siblings! There are so many things that I like about these quiet books - I like the name and felt clasp on the cover of James's book, I love the puzzle pieces for the puzzle page (especially that owl and mouse! wow!), and the rocket page, and the mechanic page...basically all of it.

Who did you make this quiet book for? How old are they?
My 3 year old brother and my 2 year old sister for Christmas.

My family says I'm great. They don't always see the annoying little things that I do.
How long did it take you?
Less than a month for Faith's. James's I did most of and then put it off for a while to work on other presents. His took the longest because it is completely handsewn.
Did you use any templates? Where can they be found?
I made my own.
How did you bind your quiet book?
Ties for James's and a lot of work and frustration for Faith's including a broken needle. What material are the pages made out of?
James's is completely felt and Faith's is mostly cotton from my huge fabric stash
What other materials did you use?
Snaps, buttons, Velcro, beads, shells, lace, ribbon, heat'n' bond, you name it, I probably used it.
How much did all the supplies cost you?
Next to nothing. Most of the things were on hand. Faith's was completely on hand and James's I had to buy the felt for, but was on sale so I got it for $10 and still had enough for another present with lots left over.
What's your favorite page? Why?
That's a hard question. For James's it would probably be the jungle page. I love the puzzles, on one side is a parrot and if you flip them over, it's an owl puzzle. For Faith's, it would be the dress up and cat page. That's her favorite too. She once took one of the dresses and put it up to herself and said "It fits!"
